Know what to migrate, what it will cost, and how to get there
Moving to a new cloud environment is more than transferring servers and data. Before committing to a migration, you need to understand whether it makes business and technical sense, which workloads should move, what the target architecture should look like, and what the migration will require.
The Cloud Migration Assessment gives you a practical migration plan based on your existing infrastructure, applications, data, dependencies and operating costs.
Our cloud engineers analyze your current environment and design an appropriate target architecture on IONOS Cloud. We identify migration risks and dependencies, estimate future infrastructure costs, and define a migration approach designed to minimize downtime and business disruption.
The result is a clear basis for deciding whether to migrate, what to migrate, and how to execute the migration.
What we assess
Depending on your environment, the assessment can cover:
- Infrastructure overview — existing compute, virtual machines, databases, storage, containers, Kubernetes, networking, backup and disaster recovery across AWS, Azure, private cloud or on-premises environments.
- Application & legacy code overview — applications, legacy systems, technology stacks, runtime requirements, dependencies and integrations that may affect migration to IONOS Cloud.
- Data & database overview — databases, data volumes, storage requirements, data flows, dependencies and migration considerations.
- Security & connectivity overview — network architecture, access requirements, security controls and connectivity with external or on-premises systems.
- Operations overview — deployment processes, monitoring, backups, availability requirements and other operational dependencies.
- Usage & cost overview — current resource utilization, infrastructure costs and major cost drivers to establish a baseline for comparison with IONOS Cloud.
What you receive
At the end of the assessment, you receive:
-
Current Infrastructure Assessment: An overview of your existing environment, key dependencies, constraints and potential migration challenges.
-
IONOS Target Architecture: A proposed architecture showing how suitable workloads can be deployed on IONOS Cloud and which IONOS services are appropriate.
-
Migration Feasibility & Risk Analysis: Identification of technical dependencies, compatibility issues, migration complexity, potential blockers and areas requiring modernization.
-
Cloud Cost Estimate: An estimate of the expected IONOS infrastructure costs based on the assessed workloads and proposed architecture, allowing comparison with your current environment.
-
Migration Roadmap: A practical, phased migration plan covering workload sequence, dependencies, preparation and validation.
-
Downtime & Business Continuity Strategy
: Recommended migration approach for minimizing service interruption, including backup, rollback and cutover considerations. -
Migration Effort, Timeline & Cost Estimate: An estimate of the engineering effort, implementation timeline and cost required to execute the proposed migration.
What we need from you
To perform the assessment, we typically require:
- Overview of your applications and workloads
- Existing infrastructure or architecture documentation
- Infrastructure inventory and configuration information
- Database and storage overview
- Network and integration dependencies
- Current infrastructure usage and monthly costs
- Access to relevant technical documentation and, where required, read-only access to the existing environment
- Availability of a technical contact who understands the current system
Don't have complete documentation? That's not a blocker. We can work with your technical team to build the required overview during the assessment.
Suitable for
This assessment is designed for organizations considering:
- AWS → IONOS Cloud
- Microsoft Azure → IONOS Cloud
- Private cloud → IONOS Cloud
- On-premises → IONOS Cloud
- Legacy infrastructure modernization
- Hybrid cloud architectures
We do not assume that everything should be migrated. Where appropriate, we identify workloads that should remain in their current environment, be modernized before migration, or form part of a hybrid architecture.
- Actionable Migration Roadmap: Receive a practical migration plan with phases, dependencies, downtime strategy, estimated effort, timeline and cost.
